harvard’s mills speeds to 200 free title; meet record

09mills

Last year Princeton’s Brett Shiflett took down one of Cristina Teuscher’s more formidable records (which had existed since 1998).

Shiflett went 1:46.51 in the race and posted a mark that looked like it might stand for awhile as the Championship meet record.

Exactly one race, thats all it took.

Harvard’s Katie Mills saw the monumental task ahead of her and accepted the challenge with emphatic fervor. The sophomore was in a class by herself in the 200y Free – leaving the field primarily in her wake. Princeton freshman Jillian Altenburger did try to reel Mills in, setting up what could become an intense rivalry over the next few years.

But on this day, Mills’ 1:46.30 stood alone. As the fastest mark in the history of the championship meet.
